AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Aiken man was found in a crashed car in Augusta after a shooting that killed him and injured two other people, according to authorities.

Authorities identified the slain man as Marquan Patten (aka Marquan Doyle), 23, of Aiken S.C.

Dispatchers said rescue crews responded at 2:50 a.m. to a report of a vehicle crash at Milledge Road and Service Drive just east of Lake Olmstead and north of Calhoun Expressway.

Doyle was found in a car at the site and pronounced dead on the scene at 3:36 a.m., according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen’s office. An autopsy will be conducted at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said further investigation revealed two other people were shot during the incident: a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, both of whom were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Deputies have now arrested and charged Marqwez Warney with the following: Murder, Criminal Attempt (Felony) and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.

Additionally, the 16-year-old juvenile, now identified as Lewis Wigfall, has also been arrested and charged as an adult for Murder. Wigfall will be detained at RYDC.

The investigation is still ongoing and no further information will be released.

The shooting was part of a streak of violent crime that’s swept across the region and that reached a tipping point over the July Fourth weekend, leading Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to declare a state of emergency and activate up to 1,000 National Guard troops to help deal with the problem.

Among the most recent incidents were the took the life of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner near the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks died.
