Stacey Abrams, Waka Flocka, and out-of-state visitors urge CSRA voters to the polls
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We’re in the final days leading up to Georgia’s historic Senate election. Though some voters have already cast their ballot, most have yet to. It’s why voter events were scattered across the CSRA on Saturday.
One was a drive-in concert that, despite the rain, continued on with special guest Waka Flocka Flame.
The artist urged people to vote on Jan. 5 when he took the stage.
The concert didn’t endorse any particular candidates, but in Grovetown, former Georgia legislator Stacey Abrams urged people to vote blue.
“[Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock] can’t get there without us. And you all know that because you’re standing in a parking lot on Saturday afternoon. But what you’re going to do now is, you’re going to wake up some sleeping giants,” Abrams said, speaking to a crowd gathered outside.
People also waved signs at the event in Columbia County, which is historically a red county.
“We wanna show them their voice matters. There are democrats in Georgia, there are democrats in Columbia County,” said Columbia County Democratic Party volunteer Bethany Sanstrum.
But the GOP had their own boots on the ground. Teams of canvassers came all the way from North Carolina to help the Georgia Republican Party.
“The balance of power in the Senate is resting on what happens in Georgia. It all comes back to you, Georgia,” said A.J. Allen, a GOP canvasser from Wake County, North Carolina. “Sitting this one out is not an option... everyone needs to participate.”
They hope visiting people’s doors and getting them voting information will ultimately help Senators Loeffler and Purdue secure more votes on Tuesday.
“A sure way to make sure that their voice is heard is to show up, to show up in big numbers,” said Allen.
As the road to election day nears to a close, it’s clear something is on everyone’s mind.
“Vote, vote, vote. Because it really matters y’all. All our voices count!” said Georgia voter Sherrie Reid.
