Suspect arrested after 71-year-old man shot in Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person was injured in a shooting this morning in Aiken, the latest in a string of mostly nonfatal shootings across the region.

The shooting was reported around 8:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Chesterfield Street, near Hampton Avenue, according to Aiken Department of Public Safety Lt. Jennifer Hayes.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim, 71-year-old Henry Mixon, who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the extent of his injuries is still unknown.

Investigators have charged Derrick Donnell Dunbar, 47, of Aiken, with attempted murder for his involvement in the shooting. Dunbar is currently incarcerated at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The shooting is still under investigation.
