Parents of Secoriea Turner, 8-year-old killed in Atlanta, sue city

ATLANTA (AP) — The parents of an 8-year-old girl who was shot and killed have filed a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta and others.
Secoriea Turner was fatally shot on the Fourth of July while riding in an SUV with her mother and another adult near the Wendy’s restaurant where Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, was killed by a police officer on June 12.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Julian Conley, 19, who turned himself into the police. Conley’s attorney said his client was innocent, saying he was armed and on the scene at the time of the shooting, but was not one of the people who fired shots.
Charmaine Turner and Secoriey Williamson filed the lawsuit Monday. It says city leaders showed negligence in failing to remove armed vigilantes who gathered at the site along with peaceful protesters.
The suit says that created a dangerous situation that led to Secoriea’s death.
