GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person died after a car veered off the road and landed in a pond off Ascauga Lake Road.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says troopers responded to the scene at the 1200 block of Ascauga Lake Road just after 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

SCHP says the driver of a 2004 Toyota Sequoia veered off the road, hit a fence, and drove the car into the pond.

A group of people pulled the driver from the vehicle before the car fully submerged and initiated R until first responders arrived.

We’re told the driver could not be revived and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver was identified as 30-year-old Tyler D. Kent of Evans, Ga.

We’re told that Kent was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

The coroner also said dive teams were called and also searched the pond off Ascauga Lake Road after the crash.

The coroner’s office and SCHP are investigating the incident.
