Woman arrested in 2019 Augusta slaying

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A suspect has been arrested and charged in the 2019 death of an Augusta man, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The victim, Rommie Williams, 34, was shot dead at the Olive Pointe Apartments the 1700 block of Essie McIntyre Boulevard. He was found by his roommate around 3 p.m. Feb. 18, 2019.
Authorities since then have been asking the public for help finding his killer.
Deputies think they’ve got that killer.
On Wednesday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Venus Latrice Shelton, 40, in connection with Williams’ slaying.
Shelton is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Deputies say the case is active, and no further details are being released at this time.
It wasn’t the first shooting death in that area. Devontay Roscoe was shot the night of Dec. 27, 2018, in the 1700 block of Essie McIntyre. Rodriguez Sanchaz Daggett went to trial and was found not guilty.

After he was slain, friends ed Williams for his generosity.
“He didn’t do nothing to nobody. He had a genuine heart. He was always there if you needed something and he would give it to you,” Shalanda Tucker told News 12 soon after the slaying.
Another friend, Cleophus Scott, said: “If you needed something he was always right there to provide. He would give you the coat off his back actually, he would. That’s why I don’t understand what happened.”
Scott’s thoughts at the time echoed those of others who hoped for closure.
“I just hope that they’ll be able to close this case and just find out who did this to him to this senseless murder,” Scott said.
Scott and Williams’ other friends may now have that answer.
