NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A North Augusta woman is in Aiken County jail on a charge of murder/homicide by child abuse in the stillbirth of her baby after she used fentanyl and heroin, according to authorities.

Erin Grandy, 31, was arrested at 10:30 a.m. Monday in connection with the July 6 incident.

She was taken to Piedmont Augusta hospital and itted to doctors that she had consumed heroin and fentanyl within the past 24 hours, according to an incident report from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

She arrived at the hospital via emergency medical service with heavy vaginal bleeding, according to officers.

The placenta detached from her womb and caused the heavy bleeding, according to officers.

She arrived at 9:39 p.m. and an emergency C-section was conducted at 11:06 p.m., according to officers.

The baby was dead when delivered.

The charge carries a potential penalty of 20 years to life, according to the jail records.

She’s not the only allegedly fentanyl-using mom charged in a child death.

Brittany Hamilton, 36, was arrested in December, several weeks after North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers were called to the 1900 block of Green Forest Drive in reference to an unresponsive infant. Investigators say Hamilton ingested meth/fentanyl near the child and the child inhaled the fumes. The fentanyl was the cause of death, according to the coroner.

Also, Alexzandra Howell was arrested in March in connection with the January death of her 23-month-old girl, who ingested a lethal amount of fentanyl in Aiken, according to authorities.
