92-year-old found dead at campground in McDuffie County
McDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The McDuffie County Coroner’s Office and Georgia Department of Natural Resources say a body was found at the Big Hart Campground in McDuffie County.
The dead man was identified as 92-year-old Michael Alan Cole, of Warrenton, according to McDuffie County Coroner Paul Johnson.
Mark McKinnon, spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources, says wardens were notified of an adult male floating face down in Clarks Hill Lake, near the Big Heart boat landing in McDuffie County late Sunday morning.
Upon arrival, McKinnon says they recovered the deceased man, and the body was turned over to the McDuffie County Coroner.
Johnson says the call came in at 11:03 a.m.
He says Cole was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:39 a.m.
The McDuffie County Coroner’s Office and Georgia DNR are investigating this incident, while the body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.
