LIST: School closures due to possible impacts from Idalia

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Ahead of possible impacts from Idalia, some CSRA school districts are announcing closures and early dismissals.

News 12 will add to this list as more closures are announced.

Listed alphabetically:

  • A Child’s World Daycare and Academy in Waynesboro will stay closed on Thursday, officials say they will reopen on Friday.
  • Aiken County Public School students will not report to school on Thursday. Employees on 190-day contracts or more, including teachers, s, school office staff, district employees, maintenance, etc. will report to work on a delayed start, with schools and buildings opening at 10 a.m. Thursday’s day off will be made up on Oct. 20, as designated by the 2023-2024 school year calendar.
  • Aiken Technical College on-campus operations and on-campus classes will have a delayed start on Wednesday and Thursday, resuming at 10:30 a.m.
  • Aiken’s First Baptist Church Preschool will reopen on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
  • Allendale County students will not report to school on Thursday. All after-school programs are canceled as well.
  • Augusta Tech will resume normal business hours on Thursday.
  • Bamberg County schools will be going online for the rest of the week.
  • Barnwell County Consolidated School District will operate as an eLearning day the rest of the week.
  • Burke County canceled school and all after-school activities for Aug. 31. Thursday and Friday will remain a learn-from-home day for students.
  • Emanuel County School System will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday for all faculty, staff, and students. All school-related activities are also canceled.
  • Edgefield County schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday and Thursday except for Strom Thurmond High School and the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center open at 10 a.m.
  • Fox Creek Academy will have a two-hour delay on Thursday.
  • Jefferson County Schools will remain closed for Aug. 31 but will return on Sept. 1.
  • Jenkins County School System will be closed on Aug. 31, for all staff and students. An announcement will be made before 4 p.m. on Thursday concerning school on Sept. 1.
  • Johnson County Schools will have a virtual learning day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • McCormick County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday. Parents are encouraged to our new app, “McCormick County School” for all school and district updates.
  • The Richmond County School System will be open for a full day of in-person instruction on Thursday. The facilities and maintenance crews will be working through the night to monitor and address areas of standing water in preparation for students’ safe return on Thursday. All after-school activities will take place as previously scheduled.
  • Screven County schools will be closed on Aug. 31 for all staff and students. An announcement will be made before 4 p.m. on Thursday concerning school on Sept. 1.
  • University of South Carolina Aiken, including classes and on-campus events, will resume at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
