Suspect identified in Wadley shoot-out with officers
WADLEY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting incident with Jefferson County deputies that sent one person to the hospital.
On Saturday at 10:07 a.m., the Wadley Police Department responded to a 911 call in the 700 block of North Main Street regarding an individual pointing a firearm at ing cars.
They continue that Wadley officers, ed by deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, found the armed individual later identified as 38-year-old Leroy Reese Jr., of Wadley.
The ’s office says during the encounter, the armed subject engaged with the officers, which resulted in officers returning fire.
Deputies say Reese continued to run from the officer with both the officer and Reese firing at each other.
They say Reese was running directly toward the deputy while firing at him, and the deputy fired his weapon, eventually striking Reese in the upper right leg.
More deputies and Wadley Fire Department personnel arrived and istered first aid until personnel from Gold Cross arrived, and the Sheriff’s Office says Reese was transported to the Augusta University Medical Center by helicopter.
The Sheriff’s Office says Reese’s condition was stable and that officers were not injured.
The GBI’s office is actively investigating this incident.
