1 man killed in shooting on Sundy Avenue in Aiken
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Aiken man is dead after a shooting near the intersection of Sumter Street and Sundy Avenue on Tuesday.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to the shooting around 9:44 a.m.
Officers located the body of 46-year-old Kenneth Jones in the front yard of an abandoned home in the 600 block of Sundy Avenue.
Lifesaving measures were attempted by officers and EMS, according to officials.
Jones was pronounced dead on scene from multiple gunshot wounds and will be autopsied Thursday afternoon in Newberry, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
Neighbors say the home has been abandoned for around two years. There was a large police presence near the home around noon.
The City of Aiken Department of Public Safety is being assisted by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
“As this case is early in the investigation, we have no suspects at this time and no additional details to release,” Lieutenant Jennifer Hayes said in a news release.
A neighbor told News 12 that he heard five to six gunshots and called 911 around 9:41 a.m.
