Deputies’ report sheds light on body found in Bamberg parking lot
BAMBERG, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A newly released police report reveals details after a 21-year-old man was found shot and killed in the city of Bamberg.
Bamberg County Coroner Wallace Hicks identified the victim as Throne Latravis Fleming of Byron, Ga. His death has been ruled as a homicide, according to the coroner.
Fleming’s body was found in the parking lot of Jones Laundromat, 12489 Heritage Highway, on Jan. 5.
According to the incident report from the police department, Chief James Smoak was notified by someone ing by when they noticed the body. Deputies say a school bus also stopped but was told they could leave due to the students and the nature of the scene.
Once on scene, deputies reported shell casings scattered near the body.
The coroner’s office was notified around 7:30 a.m.
The report states, “Deputies were notified the previous night about a fight and someone getting shot but were unable to locate anyone or any witnesses to the fight due to the caller not giving good information, and when dispatch attempted to call back, the phone was not in service.”
Deputies obtained video from the Enmarket next door of Fleming in the store just before the call, and when he left, Fleming went toward the laundromat, according to the report.
Based on the video and the time law enforcement arrived, it puts the time frame between 8:05 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 4, the report states.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating Fleming’s death.
According to the report, the suspect is unknown.
