Suspect accused of gruesome murder attempt in Salley home

SALLEY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A suspect was arrested after an attempted murder incident leaving one severely injured, while juveniles were in the Salley residence on Monday, according to authorities.

Deputies say they responded to a residence on Sandra Lane, in Salley, around 11:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting incident. When deputies arrived on the scene the suspect Christopher Gleaton, 41, of Wagener, was standing outside the residence.

Deputies say they asked Gleaton to put his hands behind his back multiple times, but he wouldn’t comply. He instead repeatedly asked the deputies to help the victim.

Gleaton then began walking towards the patrol car and sat down near a wood post, complying with the deputies, who then detained him, according to deputies.

Deputies say when they walked into the home the victim was sitting on the couch in the living room with at least one gunshot wound.

One deputy described in gruesome detail the severity of the injury, saying, “The lower part of her jaw was hanging on the left side of her face and there was blood everywhere on the floor.”

According to officials, more deputies arrived to assist the victim using a shirt that was on the porch to control the bleeding.

One deputy stated, “The shirt was placed over what was left of her jaw.”

Officials say they talking to the listed Juveniles in the residence.

Aiken County inmate records say Christopher Gleaton, 41, of Wagener, was arrested the day after the incident and charged with one count of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
