Shot S.C. cop emerges from ‘coma state,’ makes progress
OCONEE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The family of l. Lucas Watts, the Oconee County deputy who was shot in the head during a pursuit in November, shared an update on his recovery Tuesday, saying he “continues to slowly grow stronger and show progress of some degree each day.”
Watts’ family shared the update in a journal entry on their CaringBridge Page.

In the update, Watts’ family stated that his speech, communication, and sight have all improved since he entered a rehabilitation facility last month.
According to Watts’ family, he has “started showing little signs of his old self,” and the doctors say he has “fully emerged from his coma state.”
Despite his progress, Watts’ family said he still is facing complications from the shooting and the surgeries that came after it.
