CSX train derails, shutting down Laney Walker Boulevard
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a CSX train derailment on Laney Walker Boulevard early Thursday morning, according to authorities.
Authorities say at 7:09 a.m. deputies responded to the railroad tracks on Laney Walker Blvd between 5th Street and New Savannah Road with a trail derailment.
Upon arrival, deputies say they observed there were no injuries or hazardous materials wasted by the derailment.
Due to the extent of damage to the tracks and the road, motorists should avoid Laney Walker at 5th Street and New Savannah Road as well as Nowell Road for the next few days, authorities say.
We are on the scene of the accident as of 9:20 a.m. where deputies are also still on the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time, authorities say.
