Weekend storm in Saluda County now identified as an EF-1 tornado

SALUDA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A storm that rolled through Saluda County Saturday night, is now being identified as an EF-1 tornado.

On Sunday, January 28, just after 7:00 p.m., Matt Gropp with the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Columbia, S.C., now confirms the storm that rolled through Hunters Lane and Hollywood Road in Saluda County, as an EF-1 tornado.
Wind damage was reported on Hunters Lane at Blue Spring Road on January 27, around 8:18 p.m., where a home sustained damage along with a tree down, but no injuries were reported.

The NWS told First Alert Meteorologist Chris Still, Sunday morning, that they have no reason to think it was a tornado that caused the damage and they do not plan to send a crew.
Tonight, NWS says they sent out survey teams to the storm site around noon on Sunday, after which they made the identification from the damage seen in Saluda County.
While this is a developing weather story, News 12 26 will continue to follow this incident as we learn more.
