GLOVERVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Unity Outreach Church is renovating a new site they have gained off Augusta Road in Gloverville community.

By opening a new center this week with free services to the public, their goal is to help as many people as they can and make a difference in the town for the better.

Right now, it’s just a building off Augusta Road but soon it will be much more.

“Number one, this community needs love. Number two, this community needs people that listen. And number three, this community needs to know that we are people of God, and we want to love them,” said Eder Herrera, Co-Pastor of Unity Outreach Church.

They already feed up to 4,000 people a month through their food pantry. The goal is that this new center allows them to reach even more people in different ways.

“Through the years the valley, the reputation of the valley, hasn’t always been a positive one. And I think some people have taken that, you know, sometimes you become what you hear what people say over and over again. So this is kind of a chance for us to change that. You know, we don’t have to be what everybody says we are, give people hope that you don’t have to stay in a cycle,” said Chalise Herrera, Co-Pastor of Unity Outreach Church.

They say the new center will offer free showers, clothes, food, coffee and more.

“Shifting the mindset of the people in the area, knowing that you matter, people care, we’re here, we want to help encourage you, our hope is to maybe offer some GED classes at some point, some Spanish classes, just things like that, maybe even like job fairs in the future to help people,” she said.

Hoping it will create a ripple effect on people in the community.

“We tend to repeat things if we don’t know how to do better, right? So not just helping people get out of certain situations but helping them know to how to to sustain. Such as the job fairs and helping them find jobs and things like that, so that they don’t continue to spiral,” Herrera said.

Unity Outreach Church will have a celebration at the new facility on Saturday. For more information visit their Facebook.
