Weather Blog: Severe Weather Preparedness, “Be Prepared”

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - This week is Georgia’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The goal of this week is to remind and inform Georgia’s residents of how they can be prepared for all modes of severe weather. Each day this week is dedicated to a different topic or a specific mode of severe weather.

MONDAY - Family Preparedness
“Go Bag” - every household needs a severe weather “go bag”. This is a bag or box that is supplied with everything you may need in the event of a weather emergency. That should include the following:
- Water ( one gallon per person per day for 3 days)
- Non- perishable food for 3 days
- Medication (daily and over-the-counter pain relief)
- Weather Radio
- Flashlight
- Whistle
- Batteries
- Portable phone charger
If you have pets be sure to include pet food and an extra leash in your go bag.

It is also important to have a plan in place to follow in the event of severe weather. Everyone in your family/household should know the plan and be able to execute it promptly. Know where your safe places are and how to get to them. The National Weather Service recommends having a central place to meet if family get separated.
Be sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings during an event of severe weather.
