SouthState Bank says it’s been hit by ‘cybersecurity incident’
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - SouthState Bank is investigating a “cybersecurity incident,” the company disclosed in a filing with federal regulators.
The filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission states that the issue was discovered Feb. 6.
After the problem was detected, the company “initiated its incident response and business continuity protocols and began taking measures to disrupt the unauthorized activity,” the filing states.
The company said it “proactively took measures to isolate parts of its network.”
This disrupted some of the company’s business processes, the bank said, but operations have continued “in all material respects.”
SouthState said it’s “conducting a thorough investigation” and a cybersecurity firm has been brought in to help.
Banking regulators and law enforcement have been notified.
The document was filed Feb. 9, and at that time the company had not determined the incident was “reasonably likely” to materially impact its financial conditions or results of operations.
News 12 reached out to the Georgia Burea of Investigation to determine whether it’s involved in the case.
Florida-based SouthState has several local branches, including in Martinez, Augusta, North Augusta and Aiken.
