Augusta suspect arrested in Wrens bank robbery
WRENS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Augusta man was arrested on Thursday in connection to the bank robbery at Regions Bank in Wrens, the Wrens Police Department says.
According to officials, the suspect, Eddie Adonis Garnett, 53, was arrested at a motel by the U.S. Marshal’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The robbery happened on Feb. 1.
According to the Wrens Police Department, Garnett entered the bank around 1:45 p.m., walked to the bank teller and said he wanted the $100, $50, and $20 bills. He jumped the counter and went through the cash drawer himself, the police department says.
Officials say Garnett took the cash and put it in his sweatpants and hoodie pockets. He walked out of the bank and headed east.
He got into a vehicle with another person inside the vehicle.
There were no weapons used in the robbery, the department says.
Officials say there were no injuries reported.
Chief John Maynard with the Wrens Police Department say he wants to thank the FBI, U.S. Marshal’s Office, and Jefferson Sheriff’s Office for the t effort in this apprehension.
Garnett has been charged with two counts of robbery by intimidation and one county of burglary in the second degree, authorities say.
He is being held in the Jefferson County Detention Center.
