2 arrested in connection to latest killing in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two men are facing a murder charge in connection to a deadly shooting near Glenn Hills Middle School on Thursday night.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Bartholomew Nixon, 21. He was shot at least one time and pronounced dead on the scene at 6:54 p.m.

According to arrest warrants, Cequez Ceni’je Jones, 20, along with a co-defendant, Cecil Martin, 17, fired rounds from a 9 millimeter unknown make and model handgun, hitting the victim on the 3500 block of Tullocks Hill Drive.

According to Martin’s arrest warrant, he allegedly drove Jones to the incident location as Jones exited a 2017 Nissan Sentra and fired.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to Glenn Hills Drive and Tullocks Hill Drive at 7:30 p.m. for a gunshot wound victim.

Jones and Martin are charged with murder and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, according to inmate bookings.

Martin and Jones have the same listed address on the 3300 block of Blanchard Road, according to the warrants.

The coroner says the victim lived on the 3500 block of Tullocks Hill Drive.

An autopsy has been scheduled, the coroner says.

This shooting is part of an outbreak of violent crime across the CSRA that’s claimed about 150 lives in nearly two years.
