AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Demon Parrish went missing in Augusta last month but was found dead last Sunday in a wooded area in Aiken County.

The coroner determined he was shot to death, turning this case into a homicide investigation.

Aiken County officials along with Richmond County are working together on this case.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Demon Parrish’s memory with a balloon release on Saturday.

Lost at 31-years-old, those closest to him are trying to help each other through this extremely difficult time.

“You know, for somebody to do this to him and to do to this to our family. You know, it hurt,” said Kaliah Clark, Demon’s cousin.

They say his death is heartbreaking and he was loved by many people.

“He was very well known, very respectful. If he had $99, and you needed $98.99 cents, he’ll give it to you, you know, he’ll give you the hair off his back,” said Clark.

A tragedy that is bringing family, friends and those who knew him closer together.

“You know, for this to happen to our family, if its going to do anything, it’s bringing us close. I hate to say that something like this, bring us close. But sometimes it takes this to bring your family back together. And that’s what we need, we need unity, all this killing going on up here, all these dead bodies they finding it needs to stop,” said Clark.

Hoping for justice and holding each other close as they wait for answers.

“We just gonna do what he would want us to do. Everybody get together and enjoy each other, love on each other while we can and you know once justice is served of course we will feel better but we’re still gonna live as if he’s still here and he keep his name alive. He will never be forgotten,” said Jennifer Taylor, Demon’s cousin.

This has been an extremely difficult time for Parrish’s family and friends as they hope for justice and wait for more answers about what happened and why.

News 12/26 will continue to follow this case.
