AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The internationally renowned Boston Brass quintet is extending a guiding hand to the next generation.

The quintet took the stage at the Maxwell Theatre on Augusta University’s Summerville Campus.

Before leaving town, they gave a masterclass to high school and college students.

They say when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

“It is a luxury. To this message to students for them to be able to do something that they love for a living, it’s super important,” said Lead Trumpet Player for Boston Brass, Jose Sibaja.

It’s something young musicians like Augusta University Freshman Nathan Brown can relate to.

“To be able to play music, it’s truly a blessing. You get to share something that I feel like it’s God given to me. It’s really cool to share music with other people,” said Brown.

As an internationally recognized musician, doing a masterclass with students in Augusta is a full-circle moment for Sibaja.

“You don’t know who will get inspired in that hour, those 45 minutes that you’re talking to people and whose life you could change and whose life they will change in the future,” he said.

It’s knowledge Brown and other students are grateful for.

“I can’t thank them enough for coming. Just getting that was really impactful. I can’t wait to apply it to my playing,” he said.

Learning from the best to teach the next generation.

“I plan to go to graduate school for music, but I also plan on being a music educator,” Brown said.
