Butler boys, girls basketball ball their way to the State Elite 8
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - With the high school basketball playoffs continuing this week, both of Butler’s teams have made it to their respective State Elite 8′s.
By defeating Thomson and Josey in their region tournament, the Butler girls’ basketball team earned a one seed in the state playoffs, giving them home-court advantage in the first three rounds defeating Fitzgerald and Tattnall County on their home floor.
As for the boys, they’ve had to take their talents on the road and found ways to take down Dodge County and Spencer, which historically has been two tough places to play.
Both Coach Chaz Clark and Coach Eboni Fields say the atmosphere their teams have created through the season has been a lot of fun.
“We’re pushing each other. We both want to be at that championship game. We think that would be great for the school. It would bring a lot of positivity, a lot of light to the school if our boys and our girls are playing in the championship, and then maybe we can shut the school down and bring the whole school to the game,” said Fields.
Clark said: “Our energy is transferable. So, I think there’s been different times this season, where the girls were playing better than we were and, we were playing better than the girls were and I think the great thing is that we’re both playing our best basketball at this time of the year.”
On Tuesday night, the Lady Bulldogs will be back on their home floor taking on Murray County at 6 p.m., while the boys will be on the road again for a battle with South Atlanta at 6:30 p.m.
Fields said: “You’ve got to play every game like it’s your championship game because it could. Every game you’re playing at this moment could be your last game. So, you’ve got to live in that moment, you can’t take anything for granted, you’ve got to leave everything on the floor and just play hard and give everything you’ve got, so you can survive and advance.”
