AUGUSTA, Ga. - Fliers out of Augusta Regional Airport will now pay more for their baggage, no matter which airline they take.

Starting Tuesday, the fee for a Delta flier’s first and second checked bag will increase by $5.

For the first checked bag, the fee will go from $30 to $35. For the second checked bag, the fee will go from $40 to $45.

MORE FROM NEWS 12:

Delta representatives said the increase will help the airline “stay apace with rising industry costs.” The increase is the first for U.S. domestic markets since 2018.

The change came just days after American Airlines raised its fee for checked bags by $10, from $30 to $40. For luggage checked online, the fee is rising from $30 to $35.

The fee for a second checked bag is rising from $40 to $45, whether the fee is paid online or at the airport.

Delta said its fee will not apply to tickets bought before March 5. Delta representatives also said there will be no fee increases or changes for checked bags between U.S./Canada and Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

Delta and American Airlines are the two carriers serving Augusta Regional.
