Augusta National Golf Club buys city park for $350,000
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta National Golf Club is now the owner of land occupied by an Augusta park.
The Augusta Land Bank on Wednesday approved the sale of West Vineland Park to Augusta National for $350,000.
Last month, the Land Bank agreed to accept the property transfer from the city for the purpose of turning around and selling it to Augusta National.

According to its website, the Augusta Land Bank Authority was formed with the goal of “acquiring tax-delinquent and abandoned properties and returning them to productive use.”
The sale comes nearly two years after city leaders discussed declaring several parks – including West Vineland – as surplus.
And it comes several weeks after the city vexed some residents for leasing Eisenhower Park to Augusta National for parking during the Masters Tournament.
Similar concerns were aired when the Richmond County Board of Education decided in December to suddenly sell Lamar Elementary – also declared surplus – without disclosing the buyer.
