‘Mile in My Shoes’ effort collects footwear for those in need
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A local nonprofit is looking to help those in need.
From March to April, the Freedom House is working on the project “Mile in My Shoes.”
The organization is headed by Lynn Cousins, who knows what it’s like to be in need.
From being a veteran to a mom in need, she knows both sides of needing help and giving it out.
“Single mom. Had just been divorced. I was out there with my daughter and knew that I needed help, but did not know where to look for,” said Cousins.
She decided to create Freedom House Inc. after seeing both sides.
“I’ve seen myself in this situation. I’ve seen so many other people in this situation, and it’s time for us to bridge a gap,” she said.
The goal is to start providing help with food insecurity, housing, clothing, and now shoes for those who need them in partnership with Funds to Orgs, which helps fund non-profit organizations in return for shoe donations.
“We are trying to collect 100 bags with 25 pairs of gently used or new shoes. They come up and they collect the shoes and in exchange, we are given funding for our emergency financial assistance,” said Cousins.
Your donations help fund another resource for those in need.
“All of those fundings will be straightly directed towards that emergency financial assistance,” she said.
Donations can be dropped off at La Boutique outside of the Augusta Mall.
