NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The doors for Dana’s Recovery Room at the Immanuel Baptist Church in North Augusta open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those behind the effort work around the clock because they know people may need medical supplies at the drop of a hat.

“It’s just a blessing. We look forward to meeting new people each week. We hear a lot of sad, sad stories, but we hear a lot of successful stories. You get to know the people,” said founder Sandra Nuss.

Nuss decided to make a difference by creating the room to honor her daughter Dana. She ed away in 2002 at the age of 15 years old.

“She would be in here right now. Doing this with us. She would love it, and I know she would. She’ll know all about it one day. She’ll be proud,” said Nuss.

Now, they offer up medical supplies that have been donated to others at no cost.

“We can lift, lift their burdens in a little way. I love it. A woman came in this morning. She said, ‘Well how much is it gonna cost,’ and that’s the best part. When I say it’ll cost you nothing. They’re like ‘What?’ You know, they can’t believe it. That’s really gratifying to be able to tell them that,” Nuss said.

They offer walkers, crutches, canes, shower benches, bedside toilets, incontinence supplies, blood pressure monitors and supplies, scooters, wheelchairs, transport chairs and more.

They know the need is growing. Over the past four years, they said their numbers have tripled every year.

“We’ve had a lot of sad stories of the church just dropping people after our economy. I mean, we know it’s kind of a mess right now. We’re just able to help fill that gap,” she said.

If you receive a donation, they want to work as a revolving door, so when you’re done, you donate it back.
