More than $2M in federal transit money coming to Augusta

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Georgia’s U.S. senators on Thursday announced new federal resources to upgrade the public transportation infrastructure in the Peach State.
That includes $2.03 million for Augusta-Richmond County.
Georgia as a whole will get nearly $122.5 million in Fiscal Year 2024, according to Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

They said the funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law will help maintain and operate trains, buses, and ferries; upgrade stations and tracks; plan and design new transit corridors; and provide access for seniors and riders with disabilities.
In addition to Augusta, here’s what other Georgia communities are getting:
- Atlanta: $84.1 million
- Chattanooga/Northwest Georgia: $2.56 million
- Columbus: $1.6 millionm
- Savannah: $2.4 million
The rest of the money will go to smaller communities, as allocated by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
