ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged a 25-year-old man in the death of an infant.

Anthony Simpson is charged with homicide by child abuse, according to SLED spokesperson Renée Wunderlich.

Court documents state deputies responded on Aug. 28 to a report of an unresponsive three-month-old child. The infant was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the documents state.

An autopsy revealed inflicted head trauma with subdural subscapular and subgaleal hemorrhage, contusions along the jawline and a healing fractured rib, the warrant states.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office requested SLED’s Special Victims Unit Department of Child Fatalities investigate the child’s death.

Simpson was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
