Officers, K9 take down suspect with a struggle in Aiken County

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - It took officers from multiple agencies along with a stun gun and a police dog to take down a wanted fugitive.

The confrontation took place at 11:25 a.m. Feb. 29, when Aiken County deputies assisted the U.S. Marshals Service Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in trying to apprehend Jesus Moreno Sevilla, 38, of Aiken.

He was wanted by the Lexington Police Department on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor first degree, criminal solicitation of a minor and obscene sexual/harmful image to a minor, according to a report from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

SOUTH CAROLINA CRIME COVERAGE:

Authorities tried to apprehend the suspect after spotting him at the New Holland boat landing at 990 New Holland Road, where he was sitting at a table facing the South Fork Edisto River.

Officers said they told him he was under arrest and ordered him to get on the ground with his hands away from his body.

He stood up and said he had no intention of obeying the order and continued to disobey orders, according to authorities.

When he took a fighting stance, an officer shot him with a stun gun, and he went down on his knees with his hands in the air, according to authorities.,

But he still refused to get on the ground with his hands away from his body and fought with officers who approached him, according to authorities.

A police dog went after him and bit him on the hand, though he shook off the animal, and an officer shot him again with a stun gun, which had no effect, according to authorities.

The suspect then tried to run away, and the police dog bit him in a buttock.

Authorities then were able to subdue him, though he continued to fight, according to authorities,

Nearby, authorities found a 22-caliber rifle, bullets, a jacket and other items thought to belong to the suspect.

He is being held in Aiken County jail on charges of resisting arrest, malicious injury to animals and criminal sexual conduct with minor, or attempt - victim 11 to 14 years old.
