Weather Blog: A recap of how CSRA fared during the winter season

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -Meteorological spring started March 1st and that means plants are blooming and pollen is in the air, but how did our winter season shape up compared to past seasons? Let’s take a look!
Below is a table showing the average rainfall totals, and maximum and minimum temperatures for the core winter months.

After comparing this winter’s temperatures and rainfall totals to previous years we came up around average for the high temperatures and saw some discrepancy in the low temperatures and rainfall totals. The low temperatures for January and February trended about 2 degrees cooler than average. Rainfall totals stayed within an inch of the average mark but looks like we had a drier January this year.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association releases climate predictions for each season and this spring is looking to be average in regards to temperatures.

Some days stood out for their extremes.
The wettest day this winter: December 17th was the wettest day this winter season with recordings of 2.74″ at Augusta Bush Field Airport.
The hottest day this winter: December 9th and January 25th tie for the warmest afternoon this season with a high temperature of 79°.
The coldest morning this winter: January 21st was the coldest morning of the season with a low temperature of 16°.
This was also the first February since 2016 where Augusta - Bush Field did not hit 80° or warmer.
