Orangeburg Co. School District names new director of elementary education

The Orangeburg County School District selected an educator with 18 years of experience to become its new elementary education director.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) - The Orangeburg County School District selected an educator with 18 years of experience to become its new elementary education director.

Dr. Teresa Jennings, who spent her career at Wittasker Elementary School, first as a student teacher and then as its principal, will take on the role on July 1, the district announced Thursday.

“I am deeply honored to take on the responsibility of Director of Elementary Education,” she said. “This position offers an incredible chance to shape our educational practices and ensure that every child in our district benefits from a nurturing and effective learning environment.”

The district said it looks forward to Jennings’ leadership in enhancing the elementary education experience.

“Dr. Jennings has the experience, the vision, and the dedication necessary to lead and our elementary education efforts. Her journey from student teacher to a principal, all within our district, exemplifies a remarkable commitment to educational leadership that we believe will drive our elementary programs to new heights,” Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Bernard E. Frost said.

Jennings earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Claflin University and advanced degrees in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, all from SC State University.

A release from the district called it the “start of a new chapter in the district’s commitment to educational excellence.”
