Man proposes to longtime girlfriend after winning $1 million on Mega Millions

(Gray News) - A Pennsylvania man says he is celebrating his Mega Millions win by getting engaged.

The man, who didn’t release his identity to the public, reportedly won a $1 million Mega Millions prize in New Jersey with a ticket he ordered using the Jackpocket app.

Representatives with the lottery app said the lucky winner decided to purchase the winning ticket while on a break from work.

The winning ticket matched all five white balls, just missing the gold Mega Ball, for the Mega Millions drawing on Oct. 6, 2023.

After the drawing, the man received an email from Jackpocket saying “You Won Big!”

He said he didn’t believe it initially but then shared the news with his girlfriend of 10 years.

“We were both kind of in a daze all Saturday,” the winner shared. “I was supposed to get the oil changed on my car and I completely forgot.”

But he didn’t forget about what one of his first purchases was going to be – a ring for his longtime girlfriend.

“I’ve been saving up for a ring for her,” he said. “So, this came at the perfect time. Over the past 10 years, I’ve kept a log of what she likes. I think we found one.”

Together, the couple share an 8-month-old baby and say a new home is also on their list.
