“Collaborating with organizations like Best Friends Animal Society is essential to our work, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership and ,” said Sybil Altman, executive director of the center. “These partnerships not only help us find homes for our animals more quickly but also allow us to focus our resources on improving the quality of life for pets that remain in our care.”

The South faces unique challenges related to pet overpopulation, including a warmer climate that facilitates year-round breeding and varying local and state laws regarding pet ownership. These factors contribute to the high number of homeless pets in southern shelters.
Through transport initiatives, the center and its northern partners can provide more animals with the chance to find loving families, while also diversifying the pet population in areas with lower shelter intake rates.
