GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We have new details about a former Brookwood Elementary School school nurse who itted to stealing students’ medication.

An arrest warrant released Wednesday details the allegations against Ashley Staulcup, 44.

An officer’s affidavit in the warrant, dated Tuesday, alleges she committed the offense of obtaining a controlled substance by theft between Feb. 1 and March 18 at the school, 4455 Old Belair Road

She stole 22 Adderall 5 mg capsules prescribed for a student “for the purpose of personal ingestion,” the affidavit states.

“It was still a surprise even waking up this morning. Just putting a face to it was just confirming ‘Okay, this is not a nightmare. This is real,’” said a parent who wishes to remain anonymous.

Adderal is an amphetamine-based stimulant that is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It’s a controlled substance in the same classification as the illegal drugs cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

School officials say Staulcup is no longer employed by the Columbia County School District.

“It was still very shocking because here we put trust in this person for our child,” said the parent.

Parents and staff at the school learned of the theft through a letter from the principal on Tuesday.

“Safety of students and staff is a top priority and we appreciate your continued and cooperation as we work together to ensure a safe, positive environment,” Principal Melissa Culpepper said in the letter.

The parent News 12 spoke to says there’s still “shock and concern not only for my child, but for any other child and parents in the situation.”
