Football coach ed as ‘perfect fit’ for Westside High
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Co-workers and athletes are ing a Westside High School football coach who ed away on Tuesday.
McClain’s reach is felt across the area since he also coached at Laney, Butler, Glenn Hills and Jefferson County high schools and the Academy of Richmond County before going to Westside.
This was his first year at the school.
“I gave him a call one day and asked him if he wanted to come over and us at Westside. We had a vacant coaching spot open and the rest was history,” said Assistant Coach Marquette Sims.

The students at Westside High School know him as “Coach Mac.”
“We are going to carry out his legacy. Long live Timothy McClain,” said Sims.
R.J. Harris, a player, said: “He was just a coach that you would always want. The coach that you would dream of. Just an all-around coach that you would want in your life.”
From Westside to Glenn Hills to Jefferson County, Coach Mac left a mark on every field he coached on.
Westside Head Football Coach Lee Hutto said: “He’s a football guy. He was all about football, just a big part of what we did on a daily basis, and just a huge encouragement to our kids. He was a perfect fit for us here at Westside.
Parents were informed of the death in a letter from the principal.
“It is with profound sadness that I write this letter to inform you that one of our staff , Coach Timothy McClain, ed away last night,” Dr. Tikki Middleton said in the letter. “Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.”
The letter said grief counselors would be available for students.
Middleton wrote that students and staff would lean on each other as they McClain.
“Today and always, we commit to honoring the legacy of Coach McClain to serve our students and provide guidance in their athletic pursuits,” Middleton wrote.
