SMITHFIELD, Va. (Gray News) – There was a ruckus inside a convenience store in Virginia recently after a woman scratched a lottery ticket and discovered she’d won $1 million.
“I just kind of screamed!” Gayla Guishard told lottery officials. “We were all in there screaming!”
When some people heard the commotion and went inside the Race Way station to see what was wrong, they didn’t get an answer.
“We said, ‘Nothing!’ and we got really quiet,” Guishard said.
Guishard chose to take home the one-time cash option of $571,000 before taxes.
It appeared lightning struck twice for this Smithfield woman – it wasn’t the first time she’d won big in the lottery.
She also won $100,000 in 2021.
