Waynesboro 28-year-old arrested in Millen double slaying
MILLEN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Waynesboro man has been areseted in connection with a shooting over the weekend that killed two people in Millen.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it has arrested and charged Raheem Whitfield, 28, with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Whitfield turned himself in and is currently booked at the Jenkins County Jail.
Tyrell Brown, 28, of Garfield, and Maxine Jones, 48, of Millen, were shot dead just before 1:45 a.m. Sunday at the Annie P. Chance Veterans Center on Acorn Avenue, according to the GBI.
After being notified of the shooting early Sunday, law enforcement arrived and found Jones dead with a gunshot wound.
Although Jones had no immediate signs of trauma, she was pronounced dead at the scene, as well, according to GBI.
A later investigation revealed a gunshot wound to her chest, according to Jenkins County Coroner Henry Young.
At about 7:10 a.m., there was another shooting on Wasdin Street that appears connected to the first incident, according to GBI. No victims were injured during this shooting.
The bodies of Brown and Jones will be taken to the GBI crime lab in Pooler, where a medical examiner will perform autopsies.
This case is active and ongoing.

The deaths are the latest in a surge of violent crime that’s claimed more than 150 lives across the CSRA in nearly two years. The outbreak has affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah Rover, with much of the problem blamed on gangs.
