Augusta University holds health program for grandparents
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Sometimes, grandparents or great-grandparents have to step in to raise their grandchildren if parents are absent.
For more than 25 years, Augusta University’s College of Nursing has held a “Healthy Grandparents Program” to help these families.
The goal of the program is to provide these caregivers and help them with a stable and ive home environment.
“These grandparents are raising their grandchildren, and all they worry about is the grandchildren. They never think about themselves first. So, we’re picking a day where we can really focus on the grandparents’ health and make sure they’re focusing on their health and taking care of themselves,” said Coordinator Mike Patton.
On Wednesday, a clinic helped provide screenings, exams, teaching sessions, and health information for those enrolled in the program.
