AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Something we’ve heard time and time again during the Augusta National Women’s Amateur is just what a cool experience it is.

That’s not just for the young women playing but also for the girls who will follow in their footsteps.

Augusta National created the tournament to grow the game of golf, and that’s exactly what it’s doing. We caught up on Saturday with some young girls who hope to see their names on the leaderboard one day.

Riley Grimm and Isabelle Chandler qualified for Sunday’s Drive, Chip and Putt contest on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.

“Yeah, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. We’re going to get to play out here on this beautiful course. And I just got to see it for the first time. And I’m just so excited,” said Riley, who’ll be competing in the 14-15 age group.

Isabelle noted: “The grass is just like perfect. Like there’s no, like, spots for grass. Like it’s all green and it’s all like one direction. And on the greens, it’s super fast.”

For them, Saturday was all about seeing what the future could hold.

“Those girls are really amazing and it’s really inspiring. They are, because that’s where I want to be today, one day. So it’s really great to see them playing here.”

For other girls, like Annie Rae, who just took her first golf lesson, Saturday was a chance to see golf in action on a big stage.

“What I learned – go on a tee and go. Like that,” she said.

For McKenzie Chancey, she was just excited to have the opportunity to take it all in.

“Most adults don’t even get to go here, so I feel very lucky to be here,” McKenzie said.

And seeing girls as young as Asterisk Talley out there competing has opened McKenzie’s eyes.

“I thought for someone 15 being out there, she has a lot of courage,” McKenzie said.

And on Sunday, that will be Isabelle, being brave, working hard and reaching for her Augusta National dreams.

“That could be me on the 18th green one day,” she said.

As those two girls compete in Drive, Chip and Putt, we wish them the best. and we have no doubts we’ll be seeing their names on the leaderboard soon.
