AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A new mural on Broad Street is adding a splash of color to the city.

It all started with a paintbrush and a hope to welcome golf patrons to Augusta.

“The patrons that are here for the national, I just hope they’re just like, ‘Wow, this what Augusta’s like.’ I hope people will look forward to the new murals coming up and the new artwork within the area, I just want them to be happy,” said artist Emily Rahn.

Augusta University senior Emily Rahn is just one of the many artists to paint over the revolving mural on Broad Street in the past two years. She’s the first to ever paint it with a golf theme, all thanks to revolving mural project creator Addison Niday.

“I don’t think anyone has ever done a golf-themed mural. So, I thought it would be really, really fun, especially because the last artist was up in March that there would be a mural here for the golf game,” said Niday.

From splashes of azaleas to a golf ball to match, Rahn says it took hours to paint.

“That lasted around six hours and then that following Monday we did seven hours, so a total of 12 to 13 hours,” she said.

It’s just one way for Augusta visitors to gain exposure to local, young artists. It also gives artists the opportunity to build their portfolios, giving them visibility.

“I really wanted to give them an opportunity to experience what it’s like to do a mural. It’s a really rewarding experience, getting your name out there,” said Niday.

The mural is located at 1218 Broad Street.

Rahn is asking people who stop by to snap a picture to make sure to use the hashtag #emesartsyaug and tag Emesartsy on Facebook and Instagram.
