AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - This week, young artists from across our area are performing for incoming guests at the Augusta Regional Airport.

It’s part of a program with Augusta University’s Art Department.

Thousands of travelers are filling the airport this week.

“We’re extremely busy. It’s already gearing up for us,” said Lauren Smith with Augusta Regional Airport.

With so many people flying in and out, she says it’s a great time to spotlight local artists.

“We have had different musicians and singers come out, so we have a variety of talent,” she said.

JaVonne Jones set up in the baggage claim area with her electric violin.

“This is a great opportunity, especially for the exposure,” said Jones.

She first played at the airport several years ago and they’ve kept inviting her back.

“We just started a regular thing, you know, where I was playing year after year. I hope it was because it was popular demand, but to have the opportunity to come back year after year, it’s been great,” said Jones.

As Jones plays for travelers, she knows anyone could walk by this week.

“It’s always great to see new faces, and get exposure to new people because I play around here. But it’s always great to have people outside the Augusta area get to know a little bit about me,” she said.

For musicians like Jones, it’s a big opportunity during a big time of year.

The airport plans to have eight different artists performing throughout the week in the baggage claim area.
