AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you’re looking to learn more about the city of Augusta, look no further than the Augusta Museum of History.

You can’t talk about Augusta’s history without talking about golf.

“Golf is very important to this area, and the Augusta National and the Masters play a major role in that,” said Executive Director Nancy Glaser.

She says the Augusta Museum of History has several items on display. They have one of the only green jackets allowed off Augusta National property.

Golf legends like Nicklaus, Woods, and Palmer lent items used during some of their famous victories.

“I ed all these guys and wrote letters and said we really want to represent you because these are guys that were turning points in Augusta golf history,” said Glaser.

Glaser says their displays go beyond Augusta National.

“It is part of the history of golf in the area, but what we want to do is a broader interpretation,” she said.

The museum highlights the history of some of our area’s other courses. They also look at the history of the game as a whole.

You can see how tees, balls, clubs, and more have evolved over time.

“This is a great place where you can be introduced to golf history and still have a good time, we want to make that experience when people come to Augusta fun, but they can also learn,” said Glaser.

The Augusta Museum of History is open every day this week. Adults cost $5, seniors and kids cost less.
