AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - These days, we’re more connected than ever, thanks to the smartphones we all carry around.

But at the Masters, no cellphones are allowed.

You can still stay connected, but you’ll have to do it the old school way.

That’s because you can make calls from courtesy phones on the course.

You can say hello, see what your friends want from the patron shop or even just make your family jealous when they see “Masters” on the Caller ID.

If you see a concession stand at Augusta National, you’re not too far from a courtesy phone.

And thanks to those phones, you’re never too far from telling your friends and family about your Masters experience.

What’ll you tell them?

Well, if you’re like one guy: “I’ve got a pimento cheese sandwich in my hand, sittin’ at the phone booth eating it.”

Everyone we’ve talked to has loved the policy against no cellphones.

It keeps people present in the moment.

“I’ve got no camera, no phone, no nothing today – just me and the Masters, really,” one patron told us.

So the phones connect patrons to people all over the world.

But since we all have everyone’s numbers saved in our phones, do people even numbers anymore?

“He’s my best bud so I’ve known his number ... We definitely rehearsed it a couple times this morning so I could get it,” one patron said.

“I was like, ‘I gotta call my wife,’ and I was like, ‘Uh-oh she’s just saved as my wife on my phone. so i was like, ‘I gotta think about that one.’”
