AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - You don’t have to live in Augusta to leave a lasting impact on the next generation of golf.

Leaders at First Tee Augusta say fundraisers during golf week are just one way you can expand accessibility to the sport long after the week is over.

The greens may be quiet at First Tee Augusta. But this week, their mission continues to make noise in the community through more than just music.

“The reason we do our fundraisers like Rock Fore! Dough and things like that are so that we can offset the cost for the people who need it most,” said Executive Director Jill Brown.

Brown said there is one goal — to help children across the CSRA continue to play the game they love without the hefty price tag.

“Our service area is Richmond, Columbia, Burke and McDuffie counties. Generally speaking, families in Richmond and Columbia counties can get to us pretty easily. The challenge is for those families in McDuffie and Burke counties, so we are really working to make inroads in those communities. Again, beyond just exposure, but to ensure that the students have access because it’s a long drive to get here,” said Brown.

They need your help to expand their home base in other counties.

For $15, you can take a swing to play it forward.

“To have everybody come out and experience just playing. Our course is six holes of golf that takes an hour and 15 minutes, an hour and a half. They can use it as an entertainment venue and all of the funds go to First Tee,” said Brown.

Down the line, Brown says she has no doubt expansion will be a hole-in-one.

“What the ideal scenario in my mind is, is to have coaches who live in those communities that the students may already be familiar with, and to establish ongoing access to golf in those communities. That is the ultimate goal for us. I don’t want anyone to have to drive an hour to get here. I want it to be something that is local to them,” said Brown.
