18-year-old killed, 2 injured in shooting on Hicks Street
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A young man was fatally shot late Sunday on Hicks Street, the latest victim in an outbreak of violence that’s claimed 150 lives across the CSRA in the past two years.
The victim was identified as Terence Pinder, 18, of Augusta.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called at 11:03 p.m. to the 1800 block of Hicks Street to investigate a report of gunshots.
When they arrived, they found three males who’d been shot.
All three victims were taken to a local hospital, where Pinder was pronounced dead at 11:33 p.m., according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
An autopsy on Pinder has been scheduled, according to the coroner.
The conditions of the other victims is not known.
The shooting is the latest in a surge of violence across the CSRA that’s left about 150 people dead in two years. The violence has affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah River, but as the largest city, Augusta has been hit especially hard. Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs, and many of the victims and suspects have been young men.
