AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s the calm after the storm- the Monday after Masters.

This marks a return to reality after a crazy busy two golf weeks for local businesses.

We already know the major benefits of golf weeks in Augusta.

Destination Augusta says credit card spending in Augusta was $44.7 million for the month of April in 2023, a 27% increase over 2022.

This is a 204% increase over the average of all other months in the year.

All other months average $14.7 million a month.

It’s such a big boost to business that it’s informally called the 13th month of the year in of revenue.

“It really does help us get through what normal retailers consider a low season,” said Danielle Harmadi and Brianne Martin with Freshwater Design Co.

Most businesses are already thinking ahead on how to prepare for next year.

“People were looking for more hats and shirts, so we’ll definitely be a little bit more prepared for that next year with apparel goods,” said Harmadi and Martin.

Michael Head, general manager for Top Dawg Tavern, said: “I think we were more prepared to where it went smooth and not having any rough edges coming out.”

This is also a time to reflect on lessons learned.

“Maybe have instead of two food runners, three food runners coming in to continue that step forward as far as getting food out on time,” said Head.

Planning for next year is already underway for some.

Harmadi and Martin said: “We’re gonna do it even bigger and better next year.”
