Parade celebrates USC women’s basketball undefeated title run

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Gamecock women’s basketball fans, also known as FAMS, showed out all along Main Street on Sunday to honor the women’s basketball team securing their third national championship on April 7.
Thousands cheered on the team in Downtown Columbia for the parade, which featured more than 100 floats.
“[To] our FAMS; the love that you poured into us as we drove down Main Street, it is uncommon,” said Dawn Staley, head coach of the USC women’s basketball team.
Thousands celebrated the Gamecocks women’s basketball team for securing a perfect season and the program’s third national title. Community , elected officials, and of course, the FAMS, relished in the midst of all the parade madness.
“We feel like it’s brought us together not only as USC and the Gamecocks but just as a community and South Carolina,” one fan said. “We bring a lot of people here because of what the Gamecocks are doing.”
FAMS on the parade route almost felt spoiled having their second parade in three years but were even more excited this time to celebrate an undefeated championship run.
“It’s unbelievable; we replaced five starters this year,” another fan said. “Nobody expected up to be here, but we are here, and we are excited.”
One Milaysia Fulwiley super fan was celebrating on the parade route Sunday. She grew up in the same neighborhood as Fulwiley, watching her game develop over the years.
The fans were happy to see Fulwiley’s success help their hometown team win a title.
“She’s a generational player and I’m proud of her,” she said, “We grew up in the same neighborhood, I’ve been following her all throughout high school, and for her to stay at home, it’s going to be awesome next year.”
Many of the fans say they hope to be back celebrating another USC Women’s Basketball national title run on Main Street in 2025.
