Former deputy files lawsuit against Richmond County Sheriff’s Office
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A former Richmond County deputy has filed a lawsuit against the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, claiming race discrimination.
a fellow deputy was shot in the face.
The lawsuit says Quincy Cannon, the plaintiff, was employed by the sheriff’s office on June 2, 2018, and was fired on Nov. 22, 2022, when he was “racially discriminated against.”
The lawsuit was filed on April 2.

According to the lawsuit, after being arrested on Dec. 15, he was placed on paid leave before the chief deputy ed him five days later to either resign or be terminated.
Cannon claims during his employment, White deputies were treated better when it came to GBI investigations, internal investigations, suspensions and negative reports.
The lawsuit also mentions Ty Dailey, a deputy who was accused of using necessary use of force in an October 2022 incident.
Johnny Atkinson is also mentioned. He was charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of battery and violation of oath of a public officer in February after an incident almost two years ago.
Additional deputies were mentioned in the lawsuit that Cannon claims received different treatment during their investigation for unnecessary use of force.
Cannon is seeking back and front pay and benefits, emotional distress damages and attorney fees.
